In an industry dedicated to improving customer relationships (CRM), it is interesting that proprietary software vendors spend between 50-70% of revenues convincing customers to buy their product (sales and marketing) and less than 10% of revenues actually making better products (engineering).
This project came into the picture late June this year as one of the facilities was commercialising. Heard about CRM in my weekly meetings. Searched and found some information through almighty google engine and started looking for best possible option. In the meantime, the management decided to go with SugarCRM. SugarCRM looked very complicated at the first instance (as is always the case). Anyways, started the procedure. Read about it and jotted down few points of interest. SugarCRM is an open-source software-solution vendor which produces the Sugar Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system (more info could be found here - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SugarCRM). It comes with a pre package installer (mysql, apache and php) for windows. This was easy to set-up (in a tight deadline though). After setting it up I realised (my manager actually pointed out) the configuration needs amending. I am currently changing the configuration where the data gets saved at iscsi device instead of the local host (127.0.0.1). Just a good practice in IT for VMotion stuff from storage point of view (importing and exporting virtual machines without having the pain to include all the server load).
