Becrypt disk encryption software, media encryption and data security products are certified by the leading security assurance schemes, including CESG Assisted Products Scheme (CAPS), CCT Mark, Defence INFOSEC Procurement Co-Operation Group (DIPCOG) and the Federal Information Processing Standard (FIPS).
I was assigned this project last year 2008 which I didn't have a clue about. Therefore, started scratching head-off (lol - not leterally) on our almighty google engine....hehe, yes we all do it at some point. But it was not of much use. But finally after several trial and error attempts got to the documentation manuals and started playing with the software.
Date and Time: - Until 25th July 2008 at 4pm.
Objective: - To get all the portable computer systems encrypted as ordered by the Cabinet in regards to personal/ sensitive data loss.
Problems: -
There were more than 70 Laptops to be encrypted with various different Operating Systems. Including MAC’s, VISTA’s and UNIX machines, which are not compatible with the recommended encryption software “Becrypt”. There were/ are also many machines which were/ are not registered in/ through our IT audit systems. So, another task was to track down all the non registered machines. So far 64 machines has been encrypted. I have found absolutely no problems in the process of encrypting Windows XP machines. Though there were some issues with 4 laptops but there were all Sony/ Toshiba machines and Becrypt confirmed problems with their make and model numbers. Nevertheless, because MAC’s were not compatible with Becrypt and it was essential to encrypt them following the order from the Cabinet, we started using FileVault encryption which is an in-built program and comes with MAC itself. After encrypting 8 of them we discovered issues with it and 3 of them got corrupted. Out of those 3, one was In-recoverable. We now use PGP for Macs which hasn't misbehaved since then.
It was a very interesting project and I learnt a lot about SQL enterprise 2005 set-up, key gateway connection and the encryption itself.
